The problem

Your home computer with a good graphics card runs your own AI: Ollama and the Open WebUI chat page. At home it is easy to use, but from your phone on the road it is out of reach, and you cannot carry a powerful computer with you.

How DevProxy solves it

DevProxy gives the chat page a secure address like https://ai.your-workspace.devtunnels.ru. Open it on your phone and talk to the AI running at home. The conversations and models stay on your computer.

What you need

  • A computer with Ollama and Open WebUI installed. The chat must already open in a browser at home.
  • An administrator account in Open WebUI.
  • The DevProxy app and an access key with the "Website or API" ready option. See How to start using DevProxy.

Step 1. Close open sign-ups in Open WebUI

In Open WebUI, the first person to sign up becomes the administrator, and by default others can sign up on their own. Before opening access from outside:

  1. Make sure you are already signed up and signed in as the administrator.
  2. Open the Admin Panel, then Settings, then General, and turn off new user sign-ups.

Step 2. Find the chat address

Check the address Open WebUI opens at home. Most often it is http://127.0.0.1:3000 or http://127.0.0.1:8080.

Step 3. Set up the DevProxy app

Open the settings file (how to do it) and replace its contents with this text:

server: https://control.devtunnels.ru
token: YOUR_KEY
reconnect: true
tunnels:
  - name: ai
    kind: http
    local: http://127.0.0.1:3000

Paste your key and put the address from step 2 in the local line. Save the file and run devproxy start.

Step 4. Open the chat on your phone

Copy the address of the ai tunnel in the dashboard and open it in your phone's browser. Sign in with your Open WebUI account. To open the chat with one tap, add the page to your home screen: the browser menu has an "Add to Home screen" item.

Good to know

  • Do not open AI tools without password sign-in this way, such as ComfyUI or Stable Diffusion WebUI. Strangers can discover the tunnel address and use your graphics card.
  • The computer must stay on, with Ollama, Open WebUI, and DevProxy running.
  • Chatting uses little traffic. Images and files use more.

If something went wrong

  • The sign-in page opens, but AI answers do not arrive. Check that the chat answers at home, and refresh the page on your phone.
  • A connection error. Check the address in the local line: it must open in a browser on the home computer.
